Short Term Plans
I have a very long list of projects, and I am constantly re-prioritizing that list. Projects on the front burner for winter 2011 include:
-
Sell five CSA shares for 2012
-
Finish the root cellar
-
Design the irrigation system
-
Design the expansion of the perennial garden
-
Cut trails through our newly-acquired ten acres to access the maple trees there.
-
Build a place to house 25 ducks and 4 goats
-
Get our home producer’s license so we can sell jellies, jams, dehydrated and fermented foods at the farmer’s market.
-
Build storage and organization into the barn and woodshed
-
Interview applicants from the ATTRA or WWOOF programs for two apprenticeship positions here in 2012
In the next few years, I intend to build a stone summer kitchen and sugar/smoke shack.
Long Range Plans
Mackey and I want Red Sunflower Farm to become a community focal point. At age 61, it will be impossible for me to accomplish all of the projects that we envision here. We will need the help of community volunteers and apprentices. And as we learn how to do things like build stone walls and buildings with slipforms and grow shiitake mushrooms, we want to teach others how to do it.
